I've seen this pattern in the "keto" community.

Studies that aren't controlled, don't show causality, controlled long-term studies are very expensive. And we know of enough surogate markers for health, which can be measured with enough precision, to make many long-term studies useless.

Speaking of diet (or vaccines, actually) controlled long-term studies actually exist. But then they are cherry-picked for not measuring the fad du jour or not being long enough.
