It's a big educational push by bitcoiners to new bitcoiners that still have their coins on an exchange; we basically teach or remind them to take their coins off exchanges like coinbase and move them to cold storage every Jan 3rd.
Search X for #ProofofKeys and you'll see there have been a few people talking about it this year afterall, mostly since my note.
