Labor always seems to win one election too late, just in time to hit economic headwinds.

If the ALP had won in 2019, I was pondering this morning, it would've likely placed some useful limits on negative gearing which would've helped moderate the housing crisis. Then they presumably would've handled the pandemic a lot better than the LNP Coalition - maybe we would've avoided that awful sixth lockdown in Melbourne by people being vaccinated sooner.

I assume they would have been re-elected in 2022 with a solid record to stand on, instead of struggling with the current economic conditions in their first term and leaving us under the threat of the LNP returning to power.

Of course it'd help if the 2019 voters weren't so easily spooked by a "They're coming for your money!" scare campaign. And if the current voters could see how the LNP is only interested in the concerns of its rich donors.

My hope is for a hung parliament in which Labor has to cooperate with the Greens and independents. Save us from another weird & nasty LNP government! And Labor needs external intervention to improve its climate change policies, to name but one problematic area.
