This is my latest piece is a detailed analysis into why a CBDC would NOT promote financial inclusion.
TL;DR - a CBDC would not address any of the underlying reasons why Americans remain unbanked today.
Those reasons are:
#1 - High costs to open a bank account
#2 - Privacy concerns
#3 - Don’t trust banks
#4 - High, unpredictable fees
In fact, a CBDC would worsen all of these things, exacerbating the problems as to why households remain unbanked today.
