If you're hosting an actual RELAY, you're not allowing anything "on" it, just through it. You may think this is splitting hairs, but it's not.

I've often said that together with dumb relays, we also need local storage for notes, to reduce the burden on relay owners while increasing their safety too. As a matter of fact, I'd very much like a model where the main note type is ephemeral and gone if you missed it, like a no-log chatroom. Or with log, but the burden is on you the user, not a server.

Once again, I am by no means a technical person so I don't even know if this is possible with Nostr. If it's not and it can be introduced, I think it's the way to go. If it can't even be introduced, then probably Nostr is doomed.
