Makin’ #compost. This is a combination of straw/manure mix cleaned out of the barn mixed with chopped leaves from autumn. The result after 1 year is incredible, light fluffy texture and rich humus smell. Perfect for amending beds and adding organic matter and nitrogen to your soil.
Pic 1, nearly finished compost after 1 year, turned once
Pic 2 new pile just made up will be ready by this time next spring.
We produce all of the compost we need on 5 acres here. It’s our only soil amendment and sole source of fertility added to our vegetable plots. We go through around 20-30 yds in a typical growing season.
