To some extent I think all young people need to realize they will never ever be normal people. But there are degrees, and there is a difference when a chance to be "part of the gang" is taken away not because you rebelled, but just because it was never "for" you.
Of course eventually I found out that there isn't just one way to belong. I found "my people" who were lost in their own ways too.
