What he did was serious. He was acting out in class and told to stop. To get back at the teacher, he stole her laptop when she wasn't looking. He took it outside and smashed it and then threw it into a canal. He should write a letter of apology to the teacher. Of course, he should have to pay for the teacher's laptop that he stole and destroyed. And, he should be expelled for at least a week not just three days.

Also, to impress upon him that what he did was wrong, I think the teacher should press charges. In addition to having to pay for the teacher's laptop that he stole and destroyed, a little court ordered community service might do him good.

"If the teacher was to press charges, he's old enough to be held accountable. The value of what he stole and destroyed is almost 500€. That means that he would have a police record, go to court, and then do community services aside from paying for the laptop and paying a fine."
