I sometimes wonder why it's so, so important to come across as strong and confident even when you're not. It might be a powerful statement to just show you're nervous on stage: faking things is sending out the wrong signal.
I used to speak in public and was VERY nervous in the beginning, and later! The most important to me was to calm myself, not pretending I was not nervous. I think people can understand if performers are nervous, and relate. We don't have to be strong and gutsy all the time.
