I understand how white people, including well-meaning ones - maybe especially well-meaning ones - can be blithely ignorant about what's going on. They're in the tanning saloon, not the hairdressers.

However, I hope they can also understand that while their innocent questions or suggestions are well-meaning, they're possibly the 100th
person making this (probably simplistic) suggestion that very day, and the Black person is tired of addressing it.
