I’ve met them. They believe it deeply, or give a very good impression of it. I am talking about people who are earning no money off it and (in some cases) don’t even work in “woke” fields.

I do hold out hope that there is a level on which they know it’s not true, but if so, that part of them has been overpowered by the part that thinks it must be true.

There are people, for example, who are moderates on this issue, but think the problem is that some people might just be “pretending to be trans” (while others actually “are trans”). The fact that they are trying to think this through, but still get stuck, shows that the belief is there.

It’s not really a stretch considering that some people believe in astrology, all kinds of religions, fate, fairies, etc.
