No matter, what they say and how hard it gets with pressure from naysayers, by making your own decisions and doing what YOU want, you will be able to look yourself in the mirror and be able to sleep soundly every night. If you don't do this, you will have "what ifs" and wind up depressed and miserable because you didn't follow your conscious or heart.
People can compliment your happiness, but in the end your responsible for your happiness
Use the pressure and negativity to prove them wrong if you think the decision your making is right. If it goes well and you get success, great! That will shut them up real quick! If it's a disaster, well you learned something to take forward and to not make the same mistake a 2nd time. You're allowed to fail and make mistakes. When you're making a decision just make sure your being smart, rational and you have a plan b in your back pocket.
In the end don't let other determine your happiness, only you can do that. Always believe in yourself and your capabilities. You're in the driver's seat in your life, not others!
