The VHS era is even shorter if you consider when the stopped being made outside of South Korea. They held on to the format longer then anyone else, it was basically the only market for tapes by that late in the aughts.

It also could be considered much longer if you count new tapes being made for collectors. Many recent films have been put on VHS by companies like Witter Entertainment.

Dividing things into eras can be weird. Some things that you wouldn't expect to come back just do. Vinyl is another very good example of this.

I agree with your hope that physical media never goes away. Streaming just isn't a viable alternative, eventually all those films will get deleted and the people who "own" them will be left with less then nothing, as they won't get their money back either. "Ownership" of a digital product, when not backed up by anything but empty promises, is a disaster waiting to happen. There needs to be something more there then just a recepit.
