How Bad Are Cheap Motor Oils? $14 vs $58

Mobil Delvac, Rotella T6, Royal Purple, Schaeffer’s, Hot Shot’s and Amsoil. I paid an independent oil testing lab to analyze all of the motor oils, and I performed my own testing for lubricity, resistance to thermal break down, and oil flow characteristics.

I bought all of the motor oils, paid for the oil analysis, and all of the supplies used in this review. I always pay for everything out of my own pocket to ensure an unbiased review. So, THANK YOU for supporting the channel.

I always used Shell Rotella T6 in my motorcycle. It was a very decent oil for a fraction of the price. Hell, it's half the price and better than a lot of other motorcycle oils. I always got the 5w-40 instead of the 15w-40 because they were the same price so why wouldn't I choose the one that has the better startup protection?

Here in Mississippi you can really benefit from running a higher viscosity oil than what's on the cap. You can also get away with a bit higher startup viscosity than what's on the oil cap but I wouldn't recommend it. Startup is the hardest time on an engine. Anything you can do to limit wear during startup will go a long long way. Always get lower viscosity startup (as long as it isn't lower viscosity than at running temp) when you can. For running temps it really depends on where you live and what season it is for what's optimal for you. Nobody ever bothers to take care of their vehicles tho.
