A friend of my wife's was arrested in Bangalore two months ago.
She just dropped off the face of the earth, couldn't communicate even with her family for the first 12 days whom were desperately looking for her.
The first 12 days she was confined to a room with 15 other people.
No mattress, no running water. They would be all fed from a bucket and left to fight over it.
Her crime?
Buying 200g of mushrooms online.
She spent a total of 7 weeks in jail until, through a loophole, she was able to move her "offense" from non-bailable to bailable. She now faces years in court and a possible 10 year sentence.
Just a gentle reminder that the state, all states, are widely, and increasingly, out of control, and that freedom technologies that limit the state's surveillance powers are more important than ever.
