WHOAAAAAAAAH.

I read this theory and it was really interesting.

"Women are strikingly different from other mammals in our reproductive physiology.

We have covert ovulation, meaning the other members of the species can't tell when a female is ovulating. This is rather rare on its own and counter intuitive in the context of evolution. In most species the female clearly signals to the male when she is fertile, through changes in appearance, smell, and behaviour, so that mating can occur at the opportune time and the genetic line can continue. Women do not obviously do any of these things, and a casual observer of either sex cannot tell if a given woman is currently fertile. How can something which decreases the success rate of sexual intercourse by approximately 75% be selected for? It is worth noting that while many female sexual characteristics vary across populations and individuals (breast size, vulva shape, hip to waist ratio) covert ovulation is universal across the species. In humans alone, decreasing the success rate of male-initiated copulation is an evolutionary advantage so powerful that it entirely out-competed any variation."
