Use of BCC to hide recipients addresses could make it hard to separate layer 1.1 from the multiple recipient layers (1.2 outwards). Is there a way to detect that an email was sent to multiple recipients without needing to know their addresses?

A BCC block does helpfully distinguish between 1.2 and the next layers out (2.1, 2.2), because the other recipient addresses can't be checked against Alice's contact book if they can't be seen.
