My dad used to be a private pilot and I spent enough time watching him going through training and in the air (albeit usually in a Cessna) to be somewhat familiar with ATC terminology. Could afford equip and classes/licensing for other radio purposes if it would meaningfully contribute. I'm in a well-covered area (no pulse point, alas) that's both a fire a flood risk but listen to remote scanners via internet when available...
