Junior doctors in the UK will stage another strike around Christmas.

Following record industrial action by student doctors, talks followed between their unions and the government over pay and working conditions. The British Medical Association (BMA) union said the proposal was worth an extra 3% on average this year. This is on top of an existing 8.8% increase; the BMA wants a 35% pay uplift to make up for what it says are below-inflation rises in pay since 2008.

The strikes will be for three days from 07:00 on 20 December and six days from 07:00 on 3 January. The January strike will be record-breaking in scope and comes at what is considered the most busy period of the year for the health service, adding extraordinary pressure to the government to give the workers what they are owed.

Far from subsiding, we are witnessing greater agitation by the workers and growing militancy owing to the cost-of-living crisis which is impoverishing millions of ordinary Britons. The working-class is refusing to bow down to the rich's desire to crush workers in jobs with poor pay and poor conditions while homes, food, energy and other necessities sky-rocket in price, lining the pockets of the rich.
