I've had a little fun working out what I can and can't do, with 9front: I'm comfortable with acme and the parts of sam that bleed into acme enough to have a mess of windows in two columns; I'm comfortable modifying my /lib/ndb/local as necessary; and I'm trying to modify libtheme, to be able to show wallpaper images... but I don't know libdraw near well enough yet.

What I do know is that I need to readimage() the path from my lib/theme ndb file, allocimage it somewhere, and then in rio.c where it normally draws the background colour, check if the background image is not nil and draw the image in place of a colour. What I haven't worked out yet, is precisely how I get the right dimensions for allocimage, and if I can make the image stretch/fill the screen.

But the fact I can so quickly open files, edit them, arrange them, and test them... this is a little heavenly, even if I've not made the progress I'd like. I'll put my version of libtheme up, plus patches, if I get this, though. It definitely won't be tonight >.>
