Intrigued I looked up Holepunch. If it's this one "zombie since 2019", then you should find out why it stalled. If the problem was too hard, ce la vie. But maybe the just didn't have the time, and all that is needed is someone to step in and do it, OR find the money to pay for a dev in say India or Sri Lanka (they need the income), and continue the work.
However be aware that while the maths of A network is an N to the Power 2 issue, the maths of multiple interconnected networks is a 2 to the Power N problem. The maths doesn't impinge directly, but does explain why good social network systems are hard to design.
