It's important to create a culture of bravery with your sons. They need to be discipled through the process of fear, bravery and victory. This process will reinforce a positive loop that will set them up for success in life.
Let me give you an example. My son's love King David. We recently put them in swim lessons. They were both afraid to go. I told them that it's important to learn to swim because when David lost a sheep he'd have to jump in the water to save it. Now they were excited to be brave like David and save the helpless sheep.
At first they were afraid to jump in the water, but with some guidance by the end of it their fear was overcome through brave action and they were victorious. I reinforced how brave they were and the great feeling they had when they did something despite their fear.
I try to have one such experience everyday. Look for moments when your sons are afraid and swoop in to guide them into brave action.
