im glad she was actually honest about how it feels rather than embellishing it. violence and crime are edge cases and don’t highlight this fundamental problem. being outnumbered 4 to 1 feels like somethings eating away at your soul 24/7. I live it every day. They ARE different. Looking at how they interact with each other it appears so disorganized and ”messy”. I don’t feel that way at all-white functions. Like our senses are more honed and we rely far more on intangible things like body language and subtext to communicate.
I don’t have a massive panic attack being around a large group of browns, but their way of interacting with one another raises an eyebrow. As far as body language and volume go, they aren’t all on the same page. And they don’t need to be because they don’t care as much about those things. But with whites, we do care and can sense when it’s alright to be loud and erratic and when to act more dignified.
