I was watching a show about a cult, and the cult members were instructed on how to cut their family members off without them even knowing so they won't cause a fuss, and I realize that it describes how I behave in my relationships with my narcissist parents perfectly. Anyway, these parents on TV with a daughter in a cult say when they see her, her eyes are glazed over and nothing progresses beyond small talk-- she is a shell of herself. I realize I act like she does with her loving parents the same way I do with my narcissist parents, but my parents think that shell IS my personality at this point, and so the running joke is how dull I am. Little do they know I just cut them off without cutting them off because that way causes me the least harm.
