Justice Munib Akhtar was sworn in as the acting chief justice of Pakistan on May 18, 2024. The oath was administered by Justice Yahya Afridi in a ceremony held at the Supreme Court in Islamabad. Justice Munib Akhtar will serve as the acting chief justice while Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa is abroad. Justice Munib Akhtar was born in 1963 and completed his education at Aitchison College, Government College University, Lahore, and Princeton University. He began his legal career in 1990 and was enrolled in the Sindh High Court in 1992 and the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2009. His practice focused on civil law, particularly commercial, corporate, arbitration, and taxation matters.
