+1 for consideration toward a new grant process.

I agree with many of the major points laid out here, as far as criticism of the current process goes.

As far as the changes go, I have thought about this myself but not in nearly as much depth. I have wondered who will champion this cause, and what their motivations might be. I think there is lots of room for both.

The OpenSats committee is a centralized committee. To attempt to decentralize their finance from an external position would seem to be an impediment.

I would hope to see someone apply for a grant for this very purpose. I would expect a decentralized committee to take on this role and work (somewhat) closely with OpenSats to identify the most impactful plan of attack.

If the new system proves to be secure and functional, I don't see why OpenSats would hesitate to deploy additional capital toward that particular initiative.

But until it's proven, I would assume they want to protect their capital.

Any new innovation in the grant space will lead to more funding. As long as OpenSats remains the only grant committee, the underlying issue is that they have no competition. Competition in this space is very healthy. Donors want options.
