I agree, the nation state model of outsourcing violence to a government has lead to the maximum flourishing of society but my thought is that computing and encryption allow for individuals to secure their own property rights much more effectively.
The key issue is the coercion, yes outsourcing power to a dedicated power is effective. But if you cannot refuse that service than it is more of a shakedown racket than a guardian angel.
