I think the guitar playing on this track has had the most influence on my own playing style more than any other track. I was absolutely hooked to Omar's style as soon as I heard the intro to this song. So dissonant and different to anything else I had heard at the time. I remember constantly replaying the section starting at around 3:55 and trying to work out the time signatures 🤯.
If I remember correctly I thought I read somewhere that this track was recorded with each musician only recording their parts by themselves to just a click track and that they only heard the other parts once the record was done. No idea if that is true, but can you imagine recording these parts to just a click track?! How could Omar compose the whole thing without any jamming between the musicians? Crazy.
