What are “Massive religious institutions”? The only one I can think of is the Catholic Church and it’s certainly been good for society even from a modern non-religious perspective. Scientific method was born from the Catholic Church, first global communications network and language (Latin), universities were invented, regimes and tyrants’ powers checked (contrasted to Eastern Orthodox & Protestant who are subservient or cede authority to State), ended human sacrifice, introduced and spread notion of universal human dignity… the list goes on. And includes beer and champagne! 😆
