News-bundling probably won't happen as long as each org refuses to face up to the fact that 80% of their flow is commodity/infotainment/filler. In the past that was a distribution/marketing "foundation" to subsidize the good/unique stuff.
But it was historically tied to a geographic monopoly, then a psychographic (you're either a TimeMag reader or a WiredMag reader).
Breaking this old habit will take the equivalent of Apple breaking the album-opoly.
