To be fair, it’s the training of the AI that takes all this energy. The human equivalent would be all the energy consumed over the decades of learning up to productive adult life. The AI is probably still much less efficient, but this should improve massively with more optimized hardware.
Kinda crazy that artificial intelligence needs the entire output of a nuclear reactor but actual intelligence can run on Twix bars and cocaine, for example.
