Body Acceptance/ harmful norms
All these norms around size, shape, age and beauty ideals are such a big part of how we perceive ourselves which makes it difficult for many to accept how we look. We compare ourselves to pictures of young, healthy and, according to the norm, beautiful people, who are all quite similar to each other. Photos that are retouched and taken by professionals, often with filters that remove blemishes and sometimes even much of the personality of these people.
Most of us realize that we do not look like the norms and the ideals we are fed with do and this can make it difficult not to be influenced in the view of ourselves. I've struggled my whole life with trying to accept how I look, that it's ok not to meet these standards and that I should be allowed to feel that I'm fine the way I am anyway.
We humans come in so many different shapes and that should be celebrated, not make us feel ashamed or less valuable!
