It would probably make coordination between farmers doing mutual defense harder. The “cops” are on the side of the raiders so fuck calling them.
Obtaining old fashioned field telephones with buried lines between the various homesteads might help mitigate that if they’re close enough together. Alternatively they could use flare pistols to signal for help. Though, if they are so isolated that there’s no neighbors close by they can count on for help, I dunno what to say.
