I wouldn't say debt is how we get money per-se. Demanding taxes be paid using certain resources does create debt of a sort, but it's the underlying FORCE which generally makes money valuable. That or increases in rates returns.

The hut tax in Africa worked because they'd burn your house down, not the ledger itself.

Crypto, on the other hand, works because people think they'll get a higher rate of returns.
