Swing-gate: Maria Bailey loses four-year privacy battle over reports on compensation linked to fall from ‘unsupervised’ swing

Former Fine Gael TD Maria Bailey has lost a long-running privacy case against the Irish Independent over coverage of the compensation claim she made after falling off a swing. Bailey argued that the media unlawfully obtained her health information, second-guessed her conduct, and was hiding behind 'sources'. The Data Protection Commission (DPC) ruled that the story was in the public interest. Bailey had launched a personal injuries claim against The Dean Hotel in Dublin as a result of the fall. The DPC dismissed several of Bailey's claims and concluded that the Irish Independent was reporting on matters in the public interest.
