Putting your rose colored glasses on, a bunch of mission aligned liberty fighters took on the largest empire in history, won, and went about their business and were allowed to talk about that.
Only a fool would refuse to acknowledge you can't make a 1:1 comparison with the tyranny potential today, but it's something to hold on to I suppose.
Pessimistically, the president recently said (and has said like half a dozen times), "you would need an f15 to take on the federal government, why would you need a RIFLE?" - Translation: we are far to powerful to fight, so you might as well give up your weapons now before we have to kill you all and take them forcibly.
