Are you suggesting that a simple trust attestation is not an anchor to the real world? I would say that it is, provided that the author of the trust attestation has an anchor to the real world.

Just to be clear: if A attests trust in B, and B in C, and C in A … in and of itself, this is useless data, regardless of how “high quality” it’s formatted. Zero trust as far as I’m concerned. There has to be SOMETHING to get an npub off zero. Which could be a chain of follows or other attestations that links back to me, or one of them does some PoW or burns some bitcoin … SOMETHING.

Caveat: the grapevine, by default, assigns zero trust to rando npubs. In theory you could assign nonzero default trust to npubs, “blind” trust as it were, but in practice you’ll probably not want to do that.
