Ingrained habits are hard to break. Which is why despite their known flaws, people continue to use facebook, twitter, etc.
Perhaps web searches are an even more critical aspect of online privacy. Search query terms, IP address, browser and device info, cookies, geolocation, click-through data... this is all info that Google, Microsoft Bing, etc use to track, learn about you, and manipulate you.
