Image-based (aka atomic, or "immutable") desktop has became really great recently.
I would really recommend bluefin-dx from Universal Blue (npub16dx…4szy) , which have an explicit goal that the users should never needing to maintain their systems.
I personally use secureblue, which is also based on universal blue. It is very stable, but the developer sometimes will disable stuff in the name of security without notification.
But in terms of battery life and heat, I don't think linux desktop can compare. I use a framework 13 AMD, it can barely make it through a day without charging, with minimal video watching and video calls. I think a good amount of Apple's battery life comes from its efficient video decoding/encoding.
