most engineers who work on infrastructure projects have almost no training in geology. maybe like two 100 level courses. something to consider next time you're driving across a bridge or through a tunnel built in the last 50 years
when I was working as a geologist, engineers had nothing but disdain for geology and what geologists had to say about ground stability. they would use laughably oversimplified models for their simulations and ignore obvious signs we pointed out of impending failure on site
