The American Diabetes Association has been getting paid to recommend Splenda and other substances (for example, potatoes) in their recipes, despite knowing the science shows those make diabetes worse. Artificial sweeteners can cause weight gain in general and specifically problems for diabetics, so they aren't a guilt-free alternative to sugar.
