What you say makes sense. I would add that culture cannot be taught; dogma can, and what most people think of as "culture" is in fact a political, legal, and economic system taught as values, i.e. ideology.
The "assimilation" notion is inherently bigoted. Give up your culture to become us... even if it erases who you are. Of course everyone says "no thanks!"
