rather than specific items in my first aid kit, this is how i *do* actively prepare for snakes:<li><p>know what types of snakes are in the area before i go, venomous and otherwise</p></li><li><p>know their active hours and seasons as well as their general behavior</p></li><li><p>wear long pants with boots and long sleeves, regardless of weather. how thick the fabric depends on the snake behavior - if i'm in copperhead territory my legs are gonna have battle armor essentially because they stay silent and give no warning before attacking. if i'm in rattlesnake territory, i don't need as much protection because they give warning.</p></li><li><p>stay proactive and aware for both myself and the dogs for the entire time, regardless of how active snakes are expected to be at the time</p></li>
