If I were you, I'd wrap the new cable in "split loom" wire protector. It works against rats, and will work against rabbits. What we do at our house is tuck all the wires behind furniture and make sure the entire wall is inaccessible -- either blocked with low Amazon cardboard box barriers or shelving or whatnot.
