just had an interesting thought

what if we've (we as in everyone who's ever used it) been marketing linux to others wrong this whole time?

so, so often do i hear people say "if you're coming from windows, use this." "if you're coming from macOS, use that"
the last time i told someone the fediverse "is like twitter/tumblr but anyone can host their own", i genuinely got *laughter* as a response- frankly i don't blame them!

perhaps we should be marketing not from a point of comparison, but purely by the platform's merits: for fedi, i now tell people "it's social media where you can sign up with whichever the hell site you want and use whatever the hell app you want". and as a bonus for some; "there's lots of queer nerds nerding around queerly"

as an exercise, i'm curious! for your linux distro (or even just desktop environment) of choice, what do you love most about it? what's some part (or parts) of it you think others would really enjoy?
