"In part, this is also because one side tends to stay out of the other's work, as preferences tend to diverge. Problems happen when the daitengu put a crow in a position of leadership or influence over the wolves, or vice versa." Hakurou tengu of Autumn Mountain
The daitengu, like any other ruler, are seen according to the prosperity of the people they rule. The history of civilization is relatively short, but there are already pages dedicated to admired royalty, infamous royalty and both.
"Wars between different clans have occurred, revolutions by kotengu unhappy with the regime or manipulated by external factors... We've had all the displeasures that an aristocratic body offers." Anonymous Tengu
Although the tengu are monster girls whose existence has been reported since ancient times, their cities are quite young compared to other civilizations, as reported they only came into existence from the age of order. However, as with any civilization, they already have their conflicts and alliances, enemies and allies: with humans, monster girls and even other tengu communities.
"Other youkai girls who used to be more individualistic started to organize themselves to a certain extent because of this. A certain daitengu with low morals started demanding that non-tengu live in her territory and decreed that the best men were reserved for her and the tengu. A united front, a war and the death of a few dozen, including her own, solved the problem." - Oni Girl
"They're quite loud propagandists about their own "skills" as potential wives and about the supposed "lack of skills" of the other monster girls." - Tanuki Girl
"All is fair in love and war..." Daitengu of Spring Hill
In addition to the quality of the present government, however, there are also opinions about the caste system. Many kotengu view their kingship with awe, admiration and gratitude. They are grateful for the youkai family that raised them above the chaos, they are happy with their position in the system, even if it is humble, and they believe that without the daitengu their entire civilization would collapse.
Others show resentment, rebellion and discontent in low tones. They don't like the crystallization of society that "prevents them from flying to the top of the mountains". Some try to climb their position by using all their strength; some keep their resentment to themselves while others give voice to it; while some simply move to human societies (with or without permission) or even to other monster girl’s looking for more freedom.
The daitengu, "the ones who aren't spoiled, at least", aren't blind to the opinions of their subjects.
"There are always those, present or past, who follow the tyrannical stereotype of punishing opinions. Apart from those, the truth is that we still seek mastery in the way we govern, just like any other discipline." - Daitengu of Autumn Hill
The high tengu caste is divided on visions of what would be best for the tengu community. Some say that they want to give their subjects more freedom and opportunities, but fear that this would cause them to regress. Others fear that the crystallization of society would stop the growth of the kotengu on all levels: physical and spiritual. There are even those who believe that the era of peace is making the tengu "soft".
A discontent among the kotengu and a concern for the daitengu is the new generations of nobility. The highest and lowest castes call the young dai "great princesses", not respectfully but pejoratively, because of their spoiled and arrogant behavior. Unlike the daitengu of yesteryear who, good or bad, strove to achieve mastery in something: martial arts, magic, knowledge, spirituality, the "dai-hime" simply believe that the winds of their innate genius will take them to great heights without having to flap their wings. The nobility and good parents have noticed this tendency and have had some success in combating it, but the peace created requires little at the moment, and these children end up resenting their parents as the real troublemakers and oppressors. On a personal level, some daitengu girls feel trapped by their noble responsibilities and confess that they would be happier if they weren't royalty.
"The kotengu are frustrated at not being able to fly high. The daitengu for not landing on the ground." Daitengu of Autumn Hill
Tengus with vision fear the future where their society will be ruled by these.
