I appreciate the sentiment, and we need to both make a resilient network that lets users have good end to end encryption. But if we build a network that optimizes for that we’ll find the users don’t really take it up and they’ll revert to insecure and vulnerable networks like telegram.

Nostr has to feel fast and responsive to users who don’t need to understand how the network works. In some situations like replies / reactions / zaps the network works incredibly well. In others we’re not there yet.

The changes you’re considering were the things that fiatjaf (npub180c…h6w6) dropped from Secure Scuttlebutt when he redid it to make Nostr. SSB was painfully slow and really struggled with discovery. But it does work entirely p2p.
