So I like ToonTown. It's an old MMO that was made by Disney in the 2000's and kept alive through non-profit community efforts like ToonTown Rewritten. There are several other community servers that do different things with new shiny content. ToonTown Corporate Clash is one of them and I had the pleasure of trying it out last year.

Unfortunately, the developers for ToonTown Corporate Clash have deliberately made their launcher incompatible with Proton. Since I run on nothing but Linux, I was disappointed that I was no longer able to play. Sure, I like ToonTown Rewritten a little more but I was starting to dig Corporate Clash's gameplay.

I checked their Discord to make sure it wasn't an unintentional bug. Apparently, the user who usually helps with Linux problems has been warned by the moderators to not give help to Linux users. With such a small player base, it's insane to me that they would do this on purpose.

I suppose it comes down to cheating but then again, who would want to cheat in such a niche retro PvE game? Like, I imagine that the kinds of cheats people would use for a game like ToonTown to be decently benign but I wouldn't exactly know.

I wanted to reach out to them, express my feelings, and get a better picture of the circumstances. I decided that I wasn't going to muster up the energy. I felt like they would outright ignore me or ban me for having played on Linux in the first place. Then again, I don't necessarily need to tell them that I played on Linux... Hm, well now I've thought of that I might ask them.

Regardless, I've been a little bummed out about it. Because sometimes I would play some Corporate Clash on my desktop instead of Rewritten. I generally prefer playing Rewritten on my Steam Deck. So ya I might ask them some questions sometime soon.
