I think making Linux trendy by showing off some sizzle would be a good way to boost that number. The biggest roadblock is familiarity with computers; even something as simple as removing the traditional start menu caused extreme anxiety in people (rightfully so to some extent). I have some ideas, which of course have their own flaws that could be solved but community (especially if it increases in market share).

Getting people to agree on what this looks like would be extremely challenging, if not impossible, assuming people would even be okay with the idea. I do think having the simplicity of Joe Sixpack sitting down and saying "I know what this is" regardless of what device he uses will to much further than people realize.
