Which actors have ever spoken about the challenges of losing weight for a film?
Matt Damon has opened up about the challenges he faced in getting back into the role of Jason Bourne in 2016, for the final installment of the series, titled Jason Bourne .
The first time he played the role, in 2002, he was 32 years old and the physical preparation had been quite simple.
In 2016, however, he was 45 years old and the age difference was felt when it came to getting into shape, especially for the fight scene at the beginning of the film where he has to appear shirtless.
"The director [Paul Greengrass] told me that this first scene of the film was to set the tone, showing that Jason Bourne had suffered over the last few years.
So if I showed up shirtless and looked well-fed, it wouldn't do at all. He said, "Sorry, buddy, but the only way we're going to think you've suffered is if you're suffering..." And he was right...
The big problem wasn't the bodybuilding, because I love it. The problem was the diet. At 45, your body doesn't react like it does at 20 or 30. The diet I followed to get lean was horrible. Absolutely horrible..."
Even though he was still grooming himself for his roles, Matt Damon had indeed put on a bit of weight over the years.
And with age, finding a body as dry as it was at 20 can become a real ordeal.
Especially for a foodie like Matt Damon, who admits to having a passion for Italian cuisine.
